Conor got there before me but Eric Bell was in the last Them line-up before Van went solo. He then played in a band called Shades of Blue, where Lynott and Downey had been in Orphanage, hence the title of the second Lizzy album.

I wonder if they would've continued in the same direction if they hadn't had the hit with Whiskey... just after Orphanage was released? The photograph Conor kindly posted is certainly iconic. That part of the Green hasn't changed to this day and the shot expresses something of the 'us against them' vibe you get in bands, in this case the 'them' being the Dublin rain evident in the silly umbrella and the light reflecting on the footpath in front of the boys.

Never checked out thin Lizzy much beyond the obvious. This is really great. And yeah - I can hear the Wilco in it (coming from under the Van).

Yeah I noticed that as well Seán. A bit of the Dominic's Preview to it alright. Probably drinking from the same well, as they both came out the same year. and no bad thing either.

Sounds like Philo had been listening to Van a good bit from that track you have up Conor. Even seems to me he says a couple of words with a Belfast cowboy accent ('jarred' for ex.).
