I’M SO RONERY

In response to speculations that North Korea has executed its Minister of Economy because a failed monetary reform. This news was issued by YONHAP (South Korea) and soon reproduced systematically by many media of other countries, among them the most important Spanish newspapers. In order to begin, YONHAP mentions as origin of the news: ‘ different sources ‘ that ‘monitor ‘ North Korea. Not specifying any of them. YONHAP sometimes is impartial, sometimes extremely sensationalist as in this case. It depends normally on the journalist who publishes the news. In North Korea, public or televised executions DO NOT EXIST. However there are in China, and USA that although not public, are attended by many witnesses. There is not a single internal publication in the DPRK that speaks of this execution. Because it is totally false. What happened then… (In response to mass media lies…)
It’s not everyday that you come across a blog post which poo-poos rumours that you’ve just executed your finance minister, but then again, this aint no ordinary blog.
It’s the official blog/forum of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea. It was set up in 2000 by Spanish national, Alejandro Cao de Benos de Les y Pérez, who is from Tarragona, Catalonia. Alejandro has his own blog, in Spanish, here.
I came across the site while looking for news of the Red Star operating system, which was designed by North Korea, and which came to the West’s attention after a Russian blogger, who bought a copy of the system while visiting the country, published photos of it on the web. Red Star is Linux-based AND has Firefox, so the rumours are true.
The North Korea blog is part of the official web site of North Korea - which includes PDF brochures of the country’s exports, including cosmetics, trucks, and garments.
North Korea also exports what it claims is a food source made from algae, but which looks suspiciously like this and is apparently great for anyone suffering from ‘undernourishment.’
The somewhat unnerving photos of the cabaret kid band comes from a February 2010 gallery available here.

Holy Kim-Il-Song Conor - you’re going into some strange corners of cyberspace in the interests of your research for DO.
Looks from that ’sportswear’ that you’ve even managed to time-travel back to Guiney’s, Talbot St. in the late 80s.
They also seem to have a giant Clontarf Castle for the under 8s.
Touch wood - no-one seems to have followed back your links yet - otherwise we’re at risk of a Bonkers Balkans Thread II…
I think you’ll find, Sean, that Kim Jon Il is a fashion icon

Oops that should have said Kim Jong Il
Picture a country where Guineys got to execute anyone who didn’t agree with their sense of fashion, and I think you’ve got North Korea.
You say unnerving, but is it any more so than Crystal Swing?
Watch yer spelling Garibaldy or they’ll have that scary looking Catalan bloke after you. You must be the first person to ever put a link to the Sahn up on DO. ‘Instructive’ ye could say. Only 5 comments before one of their ‘readers’ somehow manages to link it to immigration into dear old Blighty.
Keep your voice down DD - or Cryshtal Schwing’ll have a couple of stadium dates over there.. They’ll become Kim Jong Il’s ‘Allies’
did you see the photos of Alejandro wearing his North Korean army uniform and medals? what a dick.
Sean,
Happy to lower the tone any time. I only read the Sun for the news about Jordan.
