Heather,
There is a photograph of George (and Charlie) Gilmore in Brian Hanley's book 'The IRA 1926-1936'. There are also photographs of them in An Phoblacht of early 1932 which should be in the National Library of Ireland.

I'm about two thirds through the book now... as a former peripheral provo (who paid a pretty high price for his peripheralism at times) I have found this book very interesting. I was more a creation of the hungerstrike era, and while I had heard many of the names mentioned (like Costello, McMillen, McCann etc) I probably never actually read an account of their activities and political ideology. This book, for me, is so good, because of the way it can put some semblence of chronology on ideological chaos, as well as track shifting trends in that chaos and the agents behind it. Being a slow arriver, as opposed to being a slow learner, I was also amazed at how many of the debates and subsequent directions within the Provisional movement (of which I was a part, and which seen itself as THE movement), had actually been debated and fought over, long before the likes of me landed on the scene. An eye-opener of a book for me, and one to teach young men and women to be careful who they listen to and follow, and to relax and keep and open mind at times....

Ramzi,

The accusation by Offworld is that The WP actively engaged in facilitating people to be murdered by the state and by loyalists. Marxman has asked for actual evidence of this. No-one has offered any on this thread, or anywhere else for that matter.

In that light of having your memory of an event or events questioned, the issue of whether anyone was present at WP activities and meetings in order to provide such evidence is not entirely irrelevant.

Simon Prince's book on 1968, for example, was written by someone who was not there, but he provides documentary evidence where he questions the recollections of those who were. No such evidence is being presented here.

What does it matter if Ciaran was there?

Are you saying the workers party were honest about the official Ira? Or were they not?

As regards to collaboration with the RUC, it was party policy at that time to give information to the RUC was it not? (I am happy to be corrected if wrong). If that was the case, why would they not collaborate with the RUC when they came for a drink?
